Homemade Organic Plant Spray: Disease control
Ever since i have been gardening, i have always stuck to the rule of not introducing chemicals in my garden. What, anyway, is the point of growing your own vegetables & herbs if you are going to poison them!! So my garden strategy is to either toss away something that is too infected or prevent diseases by using my own homemade sprays & remedies to fight garden pests. I must say that these work very well specially when used regularly. Also, this particular DIY spray for pests can be used on a healthy plant to maintain it and it does no harm at all. Let’s go organic & explore the recipe..
You will need:
- Fresh Neem leaves or Neem oil
- Hing ( Asafoetida)
- Soapnut – Reetha (you can use regular liquid soap but then it won’t be organic)
- Epsom Salt
DIY ORGANIC PLANT SPRAY
- Take a large vessel and fill it half with Neem leaves.
- Boil the liquid till the leaves lose their color.
- In about half liter of this Neem liquid, add a teaspoon of Epsom salt (SEE DETAILS HERE).
- Add half a teaspoon of Hing.
- Boil a Soapnut (Reetha) in 2 cups of water till it softens. Squeeze out the foam.
- Mix this foamy water in the liquid above.
- The spray is ready!
What do each of the ingredients do?
- Soapnut – Disinfects & helps the spray stick on the leaves
- Hing – Gets rid of diseases & irregular growth
- Epsom salt – Boosts growth, healthier leaves & fruits
- Neem – Gets rid of tough pests
Instructions for using Homemade Organic Pest Spray:
- Spray in the evenings only. Neem +sunlight can kill plants.
- For very small plants, dilute the spray with water even more.
- Spray generously.
- Repeat every 10 days for maintenance.
- If you are using Neem oil instead of leaves, use half a teaspoon per liter of water.
