Homemade Organic Fertilizer for Roses
My rose plants have been screaming for some love & fertilizer lately. I’d bought a lot of them this season but lost a few prized ones due to heat & lack of care ( I was travelling too much). While I am trying to replenish my stock, yesterday was dedicated to cutting, pruning, attaching climbers to walls, deadheading and topping up with a good dose of liquid fertilizer made at home. This is my favorite organic recipe and gives great results i.e. more flowers & healthier plants. Added bonus: It is quick to make!
The benefits of BANANA, EGGS & COFFEE for plants are well known to all gardeners. How about a recipe then that combines all three into an amazing instant plant shake – all organic!
ORGANIC LIQUID FERTILIZER FOR ROSES
You can also use this for other flowering plants like hibiscus, jasmine, plumeria etc.
GATHER THE INGREDIENTS
- 1 Banana peel
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp coffee powder
BLEND WITH SOME WATER
Give a good whirl in a blender jar with about a cup of water.
ADD MORE WATER
Fill up the jar to its capacity. Mine is 1.5 liters. The proportions don’t need to be exact.
RESIST THE URGE TO TASTE
Yes, it looks and smells like yummy frothy coffee at this point but only for the roses!
POUR & REPEAT EVERY 15 DAYS
This quantity is sufficient for about 5-6 potted plants.
While we are talking about roses, trust an interior designer to come up with the weirdest gardening solutions. But hey, they work!
So, I needed to attach some rose creepers to the adjacent wall but had no hooks at that point to tie them to. Solution? Clip them with these nail clips available at hardware stores! Easy & effective.
I used a kitchen ladle as a hammer btw and the mali stood looking at me dumbfounded..lol. He knows by now that I’m insane, but this, was another level!
