GERMINATION SUCCESS

Here’s a sneak-peek at the first germination success using the baggie method.. I’m so glad it works.. or has started working atleast:) The seed pictured is Hollyhock Chareters Double obtained by seed swap..  Out of the three seeds thta i sowed, one has come up.. three was all i had.. i’d sown these in the past winters using the usual method but nothing came up.. So even if i get one plant i will be satisfied.. ofcourse if all 3 germinate and become plants.. nothing like it! but i’m not spoiling myself into day-dreaming again..

Second in line are these  dianthus seeds which i’d never sown because i had plants from winter of 2007 already.. but in the recent garden clean-up i’d pulled them all up because they had been in one pot for too long and becoming unsightly now.. and since i LOVE dianthus.. here they are..

Seeing the success of the baggie method i have sown a  LOT of seeds now that i had been wanting to germinate including Herbs.. i plan to make a Herb Basket for my mom who sticks mint in every empty pot she finds.. hehe.. so i’m planning on a  proper herb container for her.. also i need to grow dry and keep some for seasoning like oregano which i simply love!

cocopeat method does give good result but the seedlings doesn’t survive long…….may be due to lack of nutrients….

thats true.. cocopeat is just a temporary medium.. other nutrients and materials like compost bonemeal etc should always be added if u actually want the plant to stay in there for long.. newly sprouted seedlings have enough stored food in them to last till they realize they have come out of their shell.. till then cocopeat is a good medium.. after that like all plants they need external supply of food
