COMPOST BIN

Sometimes i feel very very lazy and though i’m always gardening in

my mind, i never actually go out and start digging.. today started

off as one of those days but by the evening i was feeling so guilty

for neglecting my plants that i just got up and went out.. Took a

tour of the garden.. deadheaded the verbenas and roses.. snipped

off a few weeds and before i knew i was back in action! threw my

laziness in the compost bin and set to work.. Now when i went to

throw my laziness in the compost bin( an old water tank)  i realized tht i need to do

some work on it to get it into working order..

though i have already

got one batch of compost out of it but there have been functional

problems due to not being able to roll it and aereate the stuff

periodically.. also it needed a cover tht would allow air to flow in but

keep critters out.. so here’s the cover i made with the instructions..

-take 2 strips of cardboard( i cut mine out of a packing box)

-staple one end of each to one another for adequate length(if u

have the required length in one piece its even better.. i did not

have)

-measure around the opening to calculate the diameter and staple

the two ends together to obtain a circle

-take a piece of any stiff fabric and keeping the cardboard circle on

it trace the area that needs holes..

– punch holes randomly to allow air flow as needed and staple the

fabric to the circle..

– the cover is ready!!

ofcourse there be easier ways to do this.. even buying one with a

mesh but this method served me best at the moment and satisfied

my urge to finish the job immediately with materials on hand..

i tried it on the bin and rolled it to see if it holds in place and it

does!! so now i can just lift the lid, add scraps, cover it and roll it

once a day:) even the tap does not form a major hindarance to

rolling as i thought it would.. thats it for today.. i’m off to the kitchen

to collect more compost material:)

P.S. The compost bin will be cleaned, decorated and labelled

tomorrow so don’t miss the ceremony.. right here on budscape..

tomorrow night..

Happy Gardening:)

Summer is coming and i start grow some lilac trees in my garden, but don’t know how to care for it. I am reading a lot of gardening and lawn care blogs this weeks. I really liked your blog! I found very useful info on this Greenhouse & Nursery Supplies web site.
